When stumbling across this figure in 2017, I was hocked. How do people possibly launch something impactful next to work? How can you grow an idea to a business & eventually escape 9 to 5? Would I be able to get financially independent before pension by age 40, 50 or 60 & find more purpose in life?
In 2017 with 10 years of 12-hour workdays on my back and 1,87 € left on my account due to a recent divorce, I committed myself to find out: next to a busy full time job, I had started a master, interviewed part time entrepreneurs on how they started & grew an idea next to work & documented my learnings in the master thesis.
Wanting to put my learnings into practice, I attempted launching next to work myself, failed two side hustles, yet succeeded with one. And what’s more: along the way, I was lucky to meet people, who did the same & joined this community to tell us all about it.
Surely side hustles must be impossible to launch successful next to most jobs though? No, none of us was Einstein, nor had a job with under 50 hours per week, nor inherited a million+.. Another get rich quick promise? No, though everyone I talked to doesn’t have to work 9 to 5 anymore on paper, everyone went through delayed gratification & put in effort to succeed.

Why side hustles for financial independence?
Thinking about pursuing a career employed? That is fine, that is what I did. Till I noticed amongst peers how fast cashflow that one considers secure can decrease or vanish.. a divorce, a diagnosis, a layoff, a trend, a reorg, a competitor, a new boss... you name it.. None of this you can influence. There is no such thing as job security.
Side hustles can provide steady high income influenced by your own will, skill & experience.
Thinking about living your dream once you are pension? Think it over. My cousin died at age 29 unexpectedly leaving my family shocked.
